There is a restaurant in London called Burger & Lobster. Can you guess what it serves? Yes, burgers and lobsters. Notably, the establishment’s menu includes something called a “Double Drown,” which is a bacon-and-cheese sandwich with two battered-and-fried lobster tails replacing the bun.
Inebriated diners, beware: the double drown is presented inside the lobster shell. You’ll want to remove that to avoid an unwanted trip to the dentist. The dish, which costs $62 (or $75 for those who want to add a side of fries and a glass of Champagne), pays homage to Kentucky Fried Chicken’s “Double Down” — bacon, cheese, and a mysterious “Colonel’s sauce” sandwiched between two fried chicken cutlets.
Burger & Lobster says it is selling out of Double Drowns every day during its limited run. Nevertheless, this comes off as an example of taking good things and putting them together to make a bad thing. As if the batter, bacon, and cheese weren’t enough to mask the delicate lobster flavor, the sandwich comes with a side of lemon-garlic-butter sauce for dipping.
What do you think of this combination?
